The Mulcifer Letters (“Mulcifer Letters,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting the privacy of visitors to our website and subscribers to our newsletter. We have prepared this Privacy Policy to describe our practices regarding the Personal Data we collect from users of our website (the “Site”) and the data, letters, audio, and other materials made available through the Site (collectively, the “Mulcifer Letters Materials”).

2. A Note About Children

We do not intentionally gather Personal Data from visitors who are under the age of 13. If a child under 13 submits Personal Data to us and we learn that the Personal Data is that of a child under 13, we will attempt to delete the information as soon as possible. If you believe we might have any Personal Data from a child under 13, please contact us at the email address above.

3. A Note to Users Outside the United States

If you are located in the United Kingdom (“UK”) or the European Economic Area (“EEA”), this section applies to you:

  • We are the controller (for the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 and any UK implementing legislation, together “EU Data Protection Legislation”) of your Personal Data.
  • The legal basis for our processing of your Personal Data as described in this Policy is your consent (for example, when you subscribe to the newsletter) or our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Site, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • We ask that you not provide us with any Special Category Personal Data (as defined in the GDPR), such as information related to racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religion, health, or biometric data. If you do not consent to our processing of such sensitive information, please do not submit it to us.
  • We may transfer your Personal Data outside the UK or EEA (including to the United States, where the Site is operated). Where we do, we take steps to ensure an appropriate level of protection, consistent with EU Data Protection Legislation.

If you are located elsewhere outside the United States, by accessing or using the Site you acknowledge that your Personal Data may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.

4. Types of Data We Collect

“Personal Data” means data that allows someone to identify or contact you, such as your name and e-mail address, along with any other non-public information associated with that data. “Anonymous Data” means data that is not linked to your Personal Data and does not, by itself, permit identification of an individual person. We collect Personal Data and Anonymous Data as described below.

a. Information You Provide to Us

  • When you subscribe to our newsletter, you provide your e-mail address.
  • If you contact us, leave a comment, or reply to the newsletter, we collect your name (if given), e-mail address, and the content of your message.
  • If you make a donation through the Site’s give/donate page, our third-party payment processor collects your payment information directly; we do not receive or store your full card details ourselves.

b. Information Collected via Technology

  • Information Collected by Our Servers. Our servers (or those of our hosting/newsletter provider) automatically collect information such as your browser type, operating system, IP address, and date/time of visit.
  • Cookies. Like most websites, we use cookies — small text files stored on your device — to make the Site work and to understand how it is used. You can instruct your browser to refuse cookies, though some Site features may not function properly without them.
  • Newsletter and Email Analytics. Our newsletter platform (Beehiiv) may collect information about whether you open our emails and which links you click, similar in function to a pixel tag, so that we can understand engagement and improve what we send.
  • Analytics. We use analytics tools to understand how visitors use the Site: which pages are read, how people arrive, and roughly where visitors come from. These tools include Google Analytics, Meta’s measurement tools, Beehiiv’s analytics, and other similar tools we may adopt as appropriate. This information is aggregated; we do not use it to identify you personally.
  • Advertising Measurement. We advertise the letters on platforms such as Meta (Facebook/Instagram) and Google. To measure whether that advertising works, the Site uses those platforms’ measurement tools (such as the Meta pixel and Google Ads tags). These may set cookies and collect information about your visit, such as the pages you view and whether you subscribe, and the platforms may connect that information with accounts you hold with them. We do not serve third-party ads on the Site itself. You can limit this measurement through your browser’s cookie controls and each platform’s ad-preference settings.
  • Do Not Track; Global Privacy Control. We do not currently respond to “do not track” signals from web browsers. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal and you have questions about how it applies, contact us at the email address above; the opt-out described in Section 8(e) works regardless.

5. Use of Your Personal Data

We use Personal Data you submit to us to:

  • send you the newsletter and respond to your inquiries;
  • operate, maintain, and improve the Site;
  • process donations you choose to make, through our payment processor; and
  • send administrative notices, such as updates to this Privacy Policy.

We may create Anonymous Data from Personal Data by removing information that makes it personally identifiable, and we may use Anonymous Data for any purpose, including to understand how the Site is used.

6. Disclosure of Your Personal Data

a. Service Providers

We share your Personal Data with the third-party service providers who help us operate the Site and newsletter — currently Beehiiv (newsletter delivery) and our payment processor (for donations). These providers are permitted to use your Personal Data only to provide services to us.

b. Legal and Safety Disclosures

We may disclose Personal Data if we believe in good faith that doing so is necessary to comply with the law or legal process, to protect our rights or the rights of Site users, or to investigate a violation of this Policy.

c. Change of Ownership

If The Mulcifer Letters is ever transferred to another owner or operator, your Personal Data may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to the terms of this Policy.

7. Third-Party Links

The Site may link to third-party websites, including Beehiiv and our payment processor. We do not control and are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies directly.

8. Your Choices Regarding Your Information

a. Newsletter Communications

You may unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the unsubscribe link included in every email, or by contacting us directly.

b. Cookies

You can instruct your browser to stop accepting cookies or to prompt you before accepting one. If you do not accept cookies, some Site features may not work as intended.

c. Deleting Your Personal Data

You may ask us to delete your Personal Data at any time by contacting us at the email address above. We will honor such requests except where we are required by law to retain certain information, or where information has already been anonymized.

d. Your Rights (UK/EEA)

If you are located in the UK or EEA, you may ask us to: provide you with a copy of your Personal Data; correct inaccuracies in it; delete it; restrict our processing of it; or transfer a machine-readable copy of it to you or a third party. e. Your Rights (California and other US States)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) and, if applicable, the laws of other US states, give you the right to know what Personal Data we have collected about you, to request deletion of that data, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell Personal Data for money. Our use of advertising measurement tools (such as the Meta pixel) may count as “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law; if you want to opt out of that sharing, email us at the address above and we will honor your request.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we do, we will post the revised Policy on the Site and update the “Last updated” date above. We encourage you to review this Policy periodically.
